Almost no small business is ready for AI search.

We measured 20,000 real small-business websites across 31 trades. 96.8% are missing FAQ schema. These are not opinions about what might matter. They are counts.

What are small business websites missing?

Worst first. Every figure is counted from the businesses where that thing could be checked at all, and the count is shown beside it.

What has the web already fixed?

Worth saying, because it shows the rest is achievable. Nearly every business now gets these right, and a few years ago most did not.

Crawlable, AI crawler access, HTTPS.

How was this measured?

We take business listings from OpenStreetMap, keep the ones with a website, and read each home page once, checking the things an AI assistant needs in order to understand and trust a business. Sites we could not read are counted, not quietly dropped, because dropping them would flatter every figure on this page.

We know of 201,858 businesses and are working through them, one website per second, and re-read everything every three months. No figure appears here until it has been measured on at least 30 businesses.

measures your own site against these numbers and tells you, in plain words, what to change. Get your score free.

By trade, measured

Each page below covers one trade: how many sites we measured, what they average, and which practices they have or are missing.
